Who We Are

The SADC TFCA Financing Facility (SADC TFCA FF) is intended to be a flexible, responsive, and performance-driven financing mechanism that provides sustainable funding for conservation and management actions in SADC TFCAs. The ambition is to raise at least €100 million for conservation and development from various International Cooperating Partners (ICPs) and other forms of innovative financing mechanisms

Overview of the SADC TFCA FF

In 2020, the SADC Secretariat joined hands with the German Government to establish the SADC TFCA Financing Facility. Since then, the German Government through the financial cooperation of BMZ and KfW – provided funding for the initial phase of the SADC TFCA FF up to €44 million. The European Union have joined the SADC TFCA FF through the NaturAfrica programme, with a commitment of €10 million. The SADC TFCA FF is intended to foster closer collaboration between stakeholders supporting TFCAs and provide the basis for longer-term and more sustainable funding opportunities to develop TFCAs.

The SADC TFCA FF is fully aligned with the objectives of the SADC Programme for TFCAs (2023-2033) and aims to contribute to various objectives and goals in other relevant SADC strategies and protocols such as the SADC Protocol on Wildlife Conservation and Law Enforcement (1999), the SADC Protocol on Forestry (2002), the SADC Protocol on Shared Water Courses (2002), the SADC Regional Biodiversity Strategy, SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030) and the SADC Law Enforcement and Anti-Poaching (LEAP) Strategy. The SADC TFCA FF aims to support a functional and integrated network of Transfrontier conservation areas where shared natural resources are sustainably co-managed and conserved to foster socioeconomic development, and regional integration for the benefit of people living within and around TFCAs, the SADC region, and the world.
